oops, a whole month

I noticed that the last post I made was July 23.... that's a whole month ago today. How boring!! I don't even feel like there is much to talk about... Let's see... hmmmm

The news of the farm?

I have 9 chickens all together. I have 2 of my original layers left, a rooster that I got from mom's January hatching (he looks pretty hot... it'll be a shame to get rid of him) 6 out of the 7 fancy chicks that mom hatched for me in her classroom. They are looking good but are still very chick-like. I guess they have grown a bit but they still chirp like chicks and don't cluck. Their tail feathers are still fluffy and they are still homebodies. Up until last week, every time I let them out they stayed around the coop door and wouldn't travel any further. This is the stage that I don't like. They still don't understand to come running when I call but they have found the side tree line and are totally lost to me during the day. That's what happened to #7 (a sumatra). They were completely gone and Dan and I were going out to visit with some people. It wasn't quite night yet so they were out. It took a lot of searching and calling. When i did see a few I tried to lure them in with feed and only 6 of them fell for it. I couldn't find the 7th so he just didn't come in for the night. I'm sure something must of gotten him during the night but I never saw any feathers or anything.

Mozz is doing great. She looks more adult now for some reason. She's still eating like a pig and I think my chickens are underweight because of it but she's not really getting fat. I have to figure out when to breed her because I think its now or never. This is the time of year to do it, that's for sure. We even have a buyer for a kid or two.

What else do we have? oh ya.... Mikey and Meggy. Sigh... I have no idea where they are. They just took off. Here's my guess: Meggy wanted to lay a nest again and decided that the hay mow was way too stressful for her. In her daily flights across the road she saw a great spot and decided to lay at the neighbors. Mikey, being the horny duck he is, wouldn't leave her alone and has followed her there. He came back once or twice (all excited to see me) during the first week after they left but I haven't seen him for a couple weeks now. I hope they are alright. Probably dead. If they don't come back before winter I doubt they'll make it. I guess that was one thing tried. Oh well.

So what have Dan and I been doing? Most importantly we haven't been near the internet so that's why you don't know. For my birthday weekend we went to Port Burwell with my family. It was so great. It's been years since we all went camping there and we used to do it every year for weeks. Everybody but Cass's boyfriend, Mike, could make it. I put my foot down about Dan dedicating the whole weekend to whatever I wanted so he couldn't go disappearing on me. We layed on the beach had some good campfires and just hung out. Sunday was probably the best day. While Dad went to go worship on the beach by himself, the rest of us went to the church service in the park.... boy was that memorable! It would be way to long to describe it all but lets just say that as soon as the minister stopped talking for 1 min. everyone quickly got up and left before he could start singing again. We spent most of the day on the beach but Dan and I thought we would go back mid-day to check on the dog. While we were pulling up to our site we saw a white Jimmy and I even said out loud "Oh, wouldn't that be funny if that was Mom and Dad W.?" Sure enough... out comes dad. They have seen us about as often as I've posted so they figured they would have to hunt us down to get a visit in. Oma and Opa also got to the camp site about that time. They wanted to come early so that Oma could bike around while Opa scooted around on his scooter. I believe that Larissa actually has a picture of the scooter with me on it. If that's what getting old is all about I'm alright with that!
Keith and Ellen stopped in for dinner too since Jasper and Wilma were there with us for the day. Ellen was already overdue (Phoebe was born about a week later) so it was funny seeing the huge belly on her. I decided to stay for Sunday night too since mom, dad, sarah and cass were all staying an extra night. It was a super good weekend. I still feel filled up from it.
What else did we do? hmm...
Another good day was a week and a half ago. Mom and Sarah came over on my day off and worked in the garden with me allllllll day. We've had a pretty bad drought so the garden looked like CRAP. The weeds were the only thing that was growing well. Mom thought my peppers looked terrible and spent the whole day slowly seeping 450 Litres of water onto most of our plants. The water helped sooo much and now I've got loads of ripe tomatoes and peppers waiting to be given away (hint: come over and get some).
Sarah and Peter came to visit a couple of times which was really good because they are leaving tomorrow to go back out west. It's going to be sad. I'll miss having them around, that's for sure. Since my mom's side of the family had a camping get together this weekend we decided to all come and make it a last weekend with Sarah and Peter. Dan and I are here and mom and dad and getting ready for church. There's definately lots of time to get ready this morning since we were all up at 6:30. Amy and Joel were ready to go do chores at the barn and realized that their car had been broken into. They emptied the glove compartment and took Amy's purse which also had Joel's wallet in it. They didn't go to anyone else's car (which was stupid because each car had a purse in it and Cass's even had her boss's Visa sticking out of it) and just left ASAP. Cass and I drove down the road a little ways and found the purse but their were no wallets in it. I think the saddest part is that Amy had Joel's first letter that he wrote to her in it. ID is replacable and credit cards can be canceled but sentimental stuff sucks. On the other hand, when they did go do the chores they found a baby pig that had gotten out of the pen and because of a possible disease it can't be put back with the rest so they asked if we wanted it. Dan said no but wouldn't that have been so cool? It could have been another friend for Mozz.
Oh... church time. See ya all!

Those big chirping chickens are so cute. We haven't see you in forever. Maybe the long weekend we'll come out....

Amy's wallet was found by a hitch-hiker, all the visa cards etc. were intact. Unfortunately the letter was gone. Later Dad went wandering in the ditch and saw a letter signed by Joel. What a miracle! Amy is happy, Joel (who is still minus a wallet and ID)is almost happy.
Have a good time in Nova Scotia.
I'm hoping for another blog about it.
