Chloe's a natural

I missed it all but supposedly Chloe is a natural hunter. While I was at work Dan took Chloe to a friend of ours who is really good at training dogs. We've been talking about training Chloe to be a hunting dog and we've done lots of fetching and smelling exercises with her but we hadn't actually gone hunting with her yet. Dan and Tom took 4 phesants out to a field and let them go. The point is to let the birds get a head start hiding in the brush in the field. The hunting dog runs a little bit (but not too far) ahead of you to smell them out. When the dog finds the birds they get startled and fly up in the air. At that point the hunter shoots it, the dog retrieves the dead bird and drops it at your feet. Perfect. It was bred into her, I guess. She had no problems smelling out the birds or retrieving them. She even caught a live bird and brought it back to Dan alive still. Isn't that awesome? The only problem now is finding time to do this more often. It sounds like it was really fun. And now we have some pheasant meat in our freezer!
Oh, and work was okay too.
